Basic Information on Final Exam, Study Resources, and Pre-Exam Office Hours

Date/Time of Final Exam: Thursday, March 20, 7 PM to 9:30 PM [NOTE: Exam will not cover entire 3-hour block…]

Place: Ledden Auditorium (our “usual” classroom)

Format: Exactly like the midterm. Three parts, with two questions each, to be written in three different bluebooks.

Coverage: Parts I (Concept Identification) and III (Analysis of Hypothetical Fact Pattern) will be non-cumulative. They will NOT test free-speech materials; rather, they will test materials about the Establishment Clause, Free Exercise Clause, and Substantive Due Process. Part II (Argumentation for/against Individual Professor Positions) may be cumulative to a limited extent: it MAY ask you (or allow you) to use free-speech cases in responding to one or more professor positions.

Study Resources: The most recent past final exam (Spring 2007), and the corresponding scoresheets, are already posted on the course website (click here). [NOTE: The format of the Spring 2007 final is a little different than your final; i.e., two Parts have different numbers of questions. However, the substance of the questions will be useful as study preparation.]

Pre-Exam Office Hours: Professor Smith is having his “usual” office hours on Wednesday, March 12th, from 2 PM to 4:15 PM (he is leaving early to attend the 4:30 PM talk by a former clerk to Chief Justice Warren, held in the Student Activities Center of Warren College). He will have special, expanded office hours from Noon to 6 PM on Wednesday, March 19th. All office hours will be held in SSB 363. In addition, Professor Smith will respond to specific questions by email.
